“Though I have been working as subtitler for several years, this course really filled the knowledge gaps that I did not even realised they are there. Throughout hours of interactive courses with practices and quizes, I learnt (again) about the basics of subtitling in a very structured and detailed manner. The video quality is very professional and Agnieszka's explanation is very clear and assuring. Would recommend this course to everyone who wants to brush up their subtitling knowledge. ”

Why study with AVT Masterclass?

What sets us apart

We don’t just teach the mechanics of subtitling or media localisation. We help you build judgement: what matters, what to prioritise, and how to deliver reliably in real workflows.

Our courses take you from fundamentals to advanced practice with a clear route for ongoing development — whether you’re starting out, specialising, or moving into QC and workflow roles.

Everything we teach is grounded in experience and backed by research. That means practical decisions, not slogans — and a focus on what makes work pass QC and work for audiences.

Backed by Research

Our Academic Foundations

At AVT Masterclass, our courses don’t just draw on what’s happening in the industry – they’re also rooted in solid academic research. We're not only practitioners, but researchers too, and we’ve been involved in studies on topics that shape how media is made and experienced today.

Our research covers areas such as:

  • Subtitling speed and how it affects viewer comprehension

  • Quality standards in live subtitling

  • How blind and partially sighted audiences engage with audio description

  • Eye-tracking studies on subtitle reading among hearing, hard of hearing, and deaf viewers

  • What makes a good subtitling template – and why that matters

  • Multilingual challenges in closed captioning

  • Emerging practices, from subtitling for social media to watching videos with the sound off

If you’re keen to explore further, many of our publications are open access – freely available to read and share. We’re proud to contribute to the body of knowledge shaping the future of audiovisual translation.
